hallow’s end – one week later

i like the new changes to the festival. saves the crazy things people used to do, like logging on to toons every hour to try trick and treat.

anyway, not like the food buffs were that great. now that they are just decorative, it’s less stress.

however, it’s still not easy trying to get daily boss fight loot – ie. the helm and sword. i got the helm twice on one plate wearer (better than zero) but the sword has gone to castors so far.

rings-wise, progress is ok but not fantastic. locks are still gonna need on the spirit ring. actually, my lock is doing that too! L365 is just too good to resist. even if one of the stats arent that useful for locks (spirit – for mana passive regen).

all who can get the creepy crate pet has it. and most have completed the sinister calling achievement.

out of my L84 toons, i left with just 4. the rest have hit level cap, in time, i guess, for the next xpac. after this festival, i will be mostly getting the rest of their secondary skills up – FA and cooking. i am still hoping the cooking festival will be upgraded too, so FA is more problematic. i need to use my tailoring alts to go kill cata humanoids for a higher cloth drop rate. so far, rhoanin@jubeithos is doing a good job in deepholm. cos frost mage can aoe mobs down fast.

the last 4 L84s are:

firetree: moodykat and darksunder

jubeithos: incorrigible and gsauce

but i have already started work on them (after the daily hallow runs) – firetree toons are already in TH and jubei ones are just about to pop in.

dual boxing continued

in the past, i have dual boxed occasionally, since i have 2 accounts.

however, faced with the prospect of a ton of alts now at L84 (after that rush for brewfest trinkets) and all having to take a trip to Twilight Highlands (TH), it makes sense to dual box to reduce the boredom of doing the same set of quests over and over again.

so i have gone over the list of 84s on firetree (6, so 3 pairs) and jubei’thos (4, so 2 pairs) and matched them up, usually a dps (warriors, rogues, dks) with a healing class (priests, pallys)

that way, the dps can basically kill non stop. and kill very fast too, since they dont need to stop to bandage/eat.

the next is to ensure that both toons are on the same set of TH quests. while most have just hit L84 and hence are at the Hero’s Call starting quest for TH, those that arent will need to match up with their paired alt.

fortunately, i have not got to the stage where they are already questing in TH. so that makes it easier. the last time i did dual box questing for TH, it was with Rhoanin and Persi, and that was messy cos Persi hit 84 earlier than Rhoanin, and was already in TH for farming ores. so i had to stop working on Persi’s quests and get Rhoanin up to speed.

i’m gonna document how to dual box the TH quests (at least until the SW portal in TH opens) in a following post, since i have to follow the same procedure 5 times! this means knowing which quests are kill and which quests are loot as well as the optimal sequence of doing quests.

one disadvantage of dual boxing is that i usually cant queue for LFG, which i like to do so as a distraction from the boredom of questing/farming non st0p, cos it wont be fair to the rest of the dungeon group when the 2 toons are not performing at the same rate.

brewfest: mission accomplised

i have completed my brewfest mission ahead of schedule, so for the remainder of brewfest, im gonna take it easy

mission objective #1: level for trinkets

level active alts to at least 84 in order to run coren.

to that effect, i had to properly spec some of the toons, change their gear around, as well as make them do quests instead of just queuing LFG (cos while that is fast as i have a lot of tanking/healing alts, it will make them run out of rested XP and not enuf gear for their level)

so now both warriors, Opheilia and Stormfrost, can dps as fury pretty good. doing 5k in random LFG when it happens, questing otherwise in level appropriate zones:

  • Level 82 – Deepholm
  • Level 83 – Uldum
  • Hit Level 84, stop levelling and queue for  coren as DPS/heal (cos cant tank)

Stormfrost@Jubei’thos was the last one to level (well, he started from Level 82) to 84 but he got lucky in his coren runs and quickly got his tanking and melee trinkets in addition to a stam trinket.

then again, it helps that this is towards the end of the festival, and everyone has all the needed trinkets

mission objective #2: get needed trinkets

4 trinkets for the getting: tank (dodge), heal, melee (AP) and castor dps

for multi-role toons like pallys and druids, i needed to get quite a few trinkets.

but the last toon to complete was Darksunder@Firetree. first, he needed to level to 84 (from L82) then he lost on the melee trinket roll at least 3 times while the rest of the time it didnt drop. so he killed coren the most. lol. lucky he queued as healer so that went pretty fast. but it was depressing to lose rolls or when its a trinket he already got.

mission objective #3: get tankard and/or dagger

the dagger is BoP so it’s pretty random, but i hoped it would drop for both rogues – Blackstealth@Firetree got it early in his runs (well, he is already L85 b4 brewfest) but Gsauce@Jubei’thos no luck cos he only levelled to 84 recently. is not an important issue hence not critical (since it depends on the luck of the daily bag) and besides, rogue can equip tankard!

tankard i got tons since i got so many toons running coren on a daily basis. i think i have at least 10? i stopped counting after the first few drops.

brewfest mounts

Earned the achievement Have Keg, Will Travel for 10 points.
Earned the feat of strength A Brew-FAST Mount.

the above 2 achievements are in the bag for the following toons:

xbowstrike@jubei’thos got the kodo, and so did cavelion@firetree

pickwick@firetree got the ram

Another toon hits level cap (thanks to brewfest daily bag LFG)

persi@jubei’thos dinged L85!

the joys of brewfest

week 1 roundup:

finally the tankards, they are a dropping! plus remotes. but zero mounts so far.

over the weekend, took the toons without a wolpertinger to Ironforge to get it.

levelled more toons on firetree and jubei’thos to L84 so that they can run coren for welfare epics (and more tankards!)

currently, i still have the following to go (ignoring those alts that are below L80 cos those will take too long:

  • disowned
  • dethnyte
  • opheilia

  • stormfrost
  • incorrigible

a trip to the lich king

Zappel and Xbowstrike (Naturespower helped in a couple of fights) got the title Kingslayer with the guild + some external help.

brewfest day 2

same old same old.

cant believe my luck is still as shitty as day 1.

esp when i added moodykat to the run (hit 84 last night). she got her L85 trinks but no loot.

only 1 lucky castor toon got the agi dagger again.

no mount, no L85 epic tankard!

oh well, i still got some time to try my luck, but damn AH! i see so many tankards on sale for 2k and up!

i guess tonight i get darksunder to hit 84 (last of my L83s) then i have to work on my lower level toons over the weekend.

as for the wolpertinger pet, i realise that most of my firetree toons have already got it, except for the 2 worgens wormage and werewolfe.

prof stuff are currently on hold since i am focussing on brewfest daily bag and welfare epics and pet.

brewfest day 1

right after server maintenance was over, i logged in and ran coren LFG for all my eligible toons (ie L85s and L84s)

at the end of the day, i got nothing useful from the daily bag – melee dagger for a spellcastor toon. duh

hope i have better news tomorrow.

of course, some toons have already won useful ilvl 365 epic trinkets, even some of the L84s.

on the weekend, i shall port all my toons which havent got the wolpertinger pet to IF for it.

another mission i have for brewfest is to level as many of my L80+ toons to L84 in order to get welfare epics! greeni@jubei’thos was the first lucky toon. halfway L83, i ran her thru vortex + questing in uldum. once she hit L84, i took her into coren and she picked up both dps and healing castor trinkets. initially, she lost the need roll to a lock on the healer trink. dumb lock said it’s haste! lol. even the tank said, ya, but for it to proc you need to heal! so i got it traded to greeni. so she is the super lucky toon for the day!

cavelion dinged L85

ok he was dinged a few days ago but i didnt blog then. too lazy

as usual, my later alts usually get the benefits of the mains so cave was already ready to heal heroic dungeons on hitting level cap.

er. of course, a lot of his starter L85 gear were PVP BoE stuff that was tailored by Davina. it also helped that he got a free BoE epic cloak picked up by one of the mains on Firetree, and that he is alchemist so he made his own ilvl 359 trinket.

so once i upgraded his gear, did the final bits of training and talents, off he queued as healer and ran H Tides. it was a power group so he had a super easy time healing (in fact, he did a bit of dps in his free time, the tank was that OP)

but i think im just gonna keep him doing transmutes and nothing else :) no time to get him geared up, except for maybe the usual welfare epics or the occasional H run.

i wont even use him for herbing (same as blackstealth, who is also a herbalist. he now just opens locked boxes) since he wont get any farming xp. i use dethnyte (82) and darksunder (83) for the job.

since i had picked up so much herbs in my efforts to get volatile life for alchemy transmutes, and i wasnt into making darkmoon decks, i got blackstealth to convert them into glyphs and made the full set of glyphs for all my firetree toons. except those which require to learn from books which i dont have.

spiritcat has finally got enuf gear to run ZAZG. the run was super long, due to lag issues with the tank, and some strange healing from the pally healer too. he has tons of mana but the tank still dies. so what gives? nevertheless, the group pretty much stuck together through the wipes.

the hardest fight was due to lag, at the 3rd or 4th boss. cos if tank lag when boss is on a green circle, the boss can actually heal back to full health! and did many times, until the enrage (beserk) timer was activated. fortunately, around that time, the tank lag was resolved, and we managed to down him before the 5 minutes were up. the fight took over 6 minutes!

originally, i thought the guild might still do some basic raiding, but now i dont think so. so it would be pointless to run tons of H for everstone or to mine and transmute for epic gear.

i will still be mining and transmuting, cos you never know when the mats will come in useful (at the AH!)

the joys of having 2 accounts

if you have more, well, more power to you.

but for me, 2 is just right. well, technically, if you have 5 you can run a dungeon by yourself, or if you have 10 you can raid by yourself. but that’s no fun.

two is enough

2 is just right cos for me:

  • i have a mage on every realm and account, so that i can port my own toons around. this means that i usually level a mage faster than the rest (unless it is a main). the exception is wagyuburgler whom i just started last week on khaz (now L5 only) cos i only decided to put a mage there recently, to keep company with sealtle (now L60).
  • if i start a lowbie toon and get stuck somewhere, i can always count on a higher level toon on my other account to help out. when i needed cloth for sealtle’s tailoring, such as wool and silk and later on mageweave, i basically used my L80 lock Missmisty to run deadmines, stockades, and uldaman dungeons for cloth. she would just run and hellfire everything in the path, then return to loot the bodies.
  • sometimes, i level 2 toons at the same time by putting the other toon on follow. of course, then i prefer to pick up kill-based quests rather than loot quests
  • for passing mats around between 2 accounts, it helps to have mages that can meet up to trade (if you mail to another account, unless both toons are in a high level guild for instant mail transfers, it takes a REAL-TIME hour to pass customs). i have been doing that recently when i levelled profs for khaz toons – darkruby mines ores, then smelt to bars and trades them to sealtle who then mails them to sealism for JC. since dark is based in IF, i parked sealtle (L60 mage) in IF too, since both seals are on the same ac but dark is on the other ac.
  • when i am running a guild dungeon, i can even bring along an inactive toon (when there are not enough guildies online). most heroics just need 4 man to clear these days, so the inactive toon is just tagging along for more guild points.

Everstone dinged!

actually, everstone had been L84 for the longest time. but i didnt take him into any dungeons or questing (stopped after getting the SW portal opened in Twilight Highlands).

instead, i levelled him via mining! ROFL! i did a screencap of it.

gear-wise, he already has a full set of blue L85 bloodthirsty resilience gear, an epic tanking trinket from JPs saved up from former dungeon runs,  plus some other stuff xense and other firetree toons picked up/crafted for him

so he was ready for H dungeons right from hitting the level cap, but first, i had to train and spec him up, then gem and enchant.

then i took him to queue for H.

unfortunately, his first run was H Stonecore, and i failed at the Orzuk boss fight. i just cant get the tanking mechanics right. i felt really bad about it. cos the rest of the party were ok. i can tank for normal, but H is just too complicated. even after i get the sequencing right, i get the timing wrong. i probably need to practice more. so good luck to those who are stuck in my party!

next run was H Tides. that one i am confident about. so we cleared thru, ok, with a couple of deaths along the way. for example, on the 1st fight, i think healer ran out of mana, and so i died.  i think the party was a bit low on gear, cos all the boss drops were needed. so Everstone picked up his first VPs!

a H LFG run that failed for Spiritcat

this one is an awesome epic fail. we didnt even make it to downing the 1st boss. everyone just left in the middle of the fight, when people started dying.

actually, i already suspected it wont be a good run. whenever there are 2 healers in a mob, the tank would ask the druid to root one. which totally is useless, so i ended up using MC on the rooted healer. then they went off and broke the hex on the other healer…. sigh.

at least, there was a best excuse to use root on a castor: that way i know where they are (Griffin-Stonemaul) – i even have a screencap of the convo.
