brewfest day 1

right after server maintenance was over, i logged in and ran coren LFG for all my eligible toons (ie L85s and L84s)

at the end of the day, i got nothing useful from the daily bag – melee dagger for a spellcastor toon. duh

hope i have better news tomorrow.

of course, some toons have already won useful ilvl 365 epic trinkets, even some of the L84s.

on the weekend, i shall port all my toons which havent got the wolpertinger pet to IF for it.

another mission i have for brewfest is to level as many of my L80+ toons to L84 in order to get welfare epics! greeni@jubei’thos was the first lucky toon. halfway L83, i ran her thru vortex + questing in uldum. once she hit L84, i took her into coren and she picked up both dps and healing castor trinkets. initially, she lost the need roll to a lock on the healer trink. dumb lock said it’s haste! lol. even the tank said, ya, but for it to proc you need to heal! so i got it traded to greeni. so she is the super lucky toon for the day!

the joys of having 2 accounts

if you have more, well, more power to you.

but for me, 2 is just right. well, technically, if you have 5 you can run a dungeon by yourself, or if you have 10 you can raid by yourself. but that’s no fun.

two is enough

2 is just right cos for me:

  • i have a mage on every realm and account, so that i can port my own toons around. this means that i usually level a mage faster than the rest (unless it is a main). the exception is wagyuburgler whom i just started last week on khaz (now L5 only) cos i only decided to put a mage there recently, to keep company with sealtle (now L60).
  • if i start a lowbie toon and get stuck somewhere, i can always count on a higher level toon on my other account to help out. when i needed cloth for sealtle’s tailoring, such as wool and silk and later on mageweave, i basically used my L80 lock Missmisty to run deadmines, stockades, and uldaman dungeons for cloth. she would just run and hellfire everything in the path, then return to loot the bodies.
  • sometimes, i level 2 toons at the same time by putting the other toon on follow. of course, then i prefer to pick up kill-based quests rather than loot quests
  • for passing mats around between 2 accounts, it helps to have mages that can meet up to trade (if you mail to another account, unless both toons are in a high level guild for instant mail transfers, it takes a REAL-TIME hour to pass customs). i have been doing that recently when i levelled profs for khaz toons – darkruby mines ores, then smelt to bars and trades them to sealtle who then mails them to sealism for JC. since dark is based in IF, i parked sealtle (L60 mage) in IF too, since both seals are on the same ac but dark is on the other ac.
  • when i am running a guild dungeon, i can even bring along an inactive toon (when there are not enough guildies online). most heroics just need 4 man to clear these days, so the inactive toon is just tagging along for more guild points.

northrend again

finally got an alt high enuf to revisit northrend, i first landed incorrigible, my L68 prot pally in BT (Borean Tundra). well, i did that cos he was based in Stormwind (SW) and they have a boat to BT.

big mistake. that was never my fave starter zone for levelling in northrend. just couldnt get the enthusiasm up. after paying for northrend cold weather flying and then checking out a few FPs and doing some starter quests in the vicinity of the alliance base, i flew east to valgarde in HF (Howling Fjord).

some funny happened along the way. i flew across northrend, then down to HF. as i was approaching HF, i got distracted and then left him to continue to fly off the radar. by the time i got back, he was in serious difficulties and couldnt fly back to safety. died from flying fatigue! ROFL! he rezzed somewhere in Westfall! dunno if that is a bug or what! anyway, i hearthed him back to SW and then flew him to Ironforge (IF) and set his base there. then i flew him over to Menethil Harbor and took the other boat to northrend, the one that stops at Valgarde, HF.

HF is where it’s at, boys! did the starter quests, then flew over to the HF Utgarde Keep (UK) instance, and picked up the 2 quests from the NPC outside it.  i had hit L69 shortly before, so i queued for LFG and see what i would get. yup, almost immediately, i got a LFG for tanking UK!

i was kinda distracted, and so was the healer, but we made it to the first boss and actually didnt wipe a few times along the way. even though we didnt follow strat on the first boss (stack so that consec etc will break ice tomb and oso keep the adds away from the healer)

however, the first mob up the stairs wiped us. how? i have no idea, but wipe we did. after that, a dps left and a rogue popped in. good thing, cos he helped sap for the next 4-man mob on the stairs. i probably didnt have enough gear for northrend dungeon cos i had just popped into the first dungeon without northrend gear although i had quite a bit of BoA stuff. we didnt wipe after that, and went on to clear the end boss with EASE (although i think 1 guy died. how? i have no idea, since i was doing the correct tanking style for the end boss – dont move, take the dmg from the phase 1 smash and the harder phase 2 dark smash) when tank dont move, melee dps wont run the risk of getting hit by the boss, but i think the flying axe done him in. i had to move when the flying axe got too close. twice.

and after turning the quests for the run as well as some additional utgarde catacombs, incorrigible dinged L70! and now has some northrend gear too. so next time can try the other instance in BT – Nexus.

now to rest him for a bit while i get the others to play catch up.

important update 8th april 2011:

ok. i found out the hard way. took Persi (L68 lock) to HF first, only to find out, there is NO FLYING TRAINER IN VALGARDE (HF)

so you should still go to BT first, and get the cold weather flying training, then fly over to HF, or stick with BT to level up. i just prefer HF for now. maybe after 2 toons, i might just do BT cos of the boredom of repetition.

levelling in outlands (HellFire Peninsula)

my typical strat for outlands is: get there around L59. cos if you go there too early (ie L58), it’s a pain to travel without a plane (i mean, flying, which you can only get at L60. thereafter you can even fly, back in azeroth, if you paid for the appropriate flying training).  you dont want to get there after 60, cos you miss out on gear from some starter quests in the hellfire zone.

just before you step into outlands, set your home/hearth in IF or SW (now that there are no more portals in dalaran or shattrah city). then take the portal to the blasted lands. mount up and run up to the npc just before the dark portal to pick up the 1st of a chain quest:  Through the Dark Portal

enter the dark portal, then just follow the quests to Honor Hold, right up to the fortress. which then splits into 2 quest chains. both are worth doing, but one is key to getting a quest for the 1st instance called Hellfire Ramparts (2nd instance is Blood Furnace)

Do the Know Your Enemy quest, which leads to the Fel Orc Scavengers quest, which leads to Ill Omens, which then opens up Weaken the Ramparts instance quest.

if you need to cook, pick up the ravager egg quest from a npc at the zeppelin crash site. cos then when you kill the ravagers, the meat will drop and you can cook it. the recipe is from the cook in the HH inn.

remember to get the Temple of Telhamat FP.

after a few quests and LFG instance queues to the 2 instances, you would be L61/62 and ready for Zangarmarsh.
