spending time on neglected alts

blackstealth was actually my pal’s rogue but he doesnt have time to play him, so i usually level him to the barest minimum so that he can function as a scribe. then the occasional time i or my pal take him out and about northrend, is how he got to L73.

having taken a rogue to L80 before, i guess i felt i owe it to blackstealth to shake the cobwebs off his cool leather suit and put him back into the stealth business. i had been playing him for the past few days, to finish up on his Scalawag Point quests that leads to 2 cool blue trinkets.

as usual, what i do is queue for LFG, then take him questing to kill time while queuing. once i get into LFG, i complete it, then log him out for the day, even if he is not in an inn. this will allow me to log into him and carry on doing what i was doing the following day.

that way, i dont spend too much time on him and neglect the more important daily stuff i do, and yet i can get him to slowly accumulate some emblems and level up too. as of last night, he got his 1st blue trinket and then went for his LFG in Nexus. he didnt top dps, but rogues are like that. his gear is already quite nice for his level. once he has better trinkets his dps will go up more. mib can do more dps cos mib is LW. so he has good gear, trinkets plus LW buffs.

hmmm, maybe i can spend some WG shards on BoA gear for him? let me think about this, since i have a lot of L80s on that a/c and tons of shards. BoA gear will never be a waste as long as u have an alt not at L80 yet.

the other neglected toon is cavelion@L75. i guess if i have time, i should take him out to run LFG even if he never quests anymore.

still, my current focus is, in order of priority:

  1. JC daily on both disowned and gorlog, so that they can make the epic gems for their realm toons.
  2. daily transmutes for alchemists timeforfun, opheilia and cavelion, so that i can get more eternals for smelting titansteel or making epic gems
  3. levelling pickwick@L77, moodykat@L78, dethnyte@L78, darksunder@L75,
  4. levelling timeforfun@L79, gorlog@L79 (slowly, no gear now if hit L80 now)
  5. farming on pickwick, muzzleshot, xense, xbowstrike and missmisty

the pits

yup. farming. racing against other farmers for that vein. its the pits when you dont have crusader aura + epic flying. then its a matter of skill. only disowned has both to really farm like a pro. but i hardly use him to farm cos his bags are usually maxed out. he is only good for the daily JC quest run.

and since i prefer to use a toon that has dual farming skills, its usually muzzleshot (engr+mining) or pickwick (engr+mining) or else it’s xbowstrike (skin+herbing) or xense (mining+herbing). xense is my fave farmer cos she can handle horde (except stun lock rogues) and has epic flying. and when there are too many ore farmers in SB, she can always switch to herbing instead!

even so, during lull periods, slow flying can still reap rewards. pickwick managed to find 2 titanium veins last night while waiting for his turn at LFG. another long wait for dps. *sigh* but the best thing with engineers are, there are so FEW of them in SB. so all the gas clouds are MINE! muahahahaha. so whenever i see a mine and a cloud on the minimap, i go for the mine first. cos the cloud is mine whenever i choose to get it. ok bad pun there.

im still progressing nicely on getting Timeforfun to L80. last night he went to check out Halls of Stone for the first time. these days, everyone seems to want the shortcut. so i pity dpsers who wait a long time, and then get blown thru the dungeon and out again. i queue 1 min max for Time. last night was instant. rofl. we did 2 bosses, i completed the HoS quest, and was out and back in dalaran and logged out for the night under 30 min. there was a wipe, near the start cos the circle has a lot of pat mobs. the rest went smoothly. but i am bothered cos Time didnt have his L78 blue gear yet. as a result, he ran out of mana easily. i think i need to farm cloth for him. ie. run tons of LFG on xbowstrike.

xbowstrike had a 1st timer too. H FoS (ICC 1st dungeon, Forge of Souls)! so double achievement for him on completing it. he died during the 1st boss cyclone cos i think his health a bit low. but otherwise he did well in dps but less in terms of overall damage.

xense got an achievement last night. in H Nexus. she finally did the 1st boss by downing the split images fast enough (the rest of the party are 5k GS)

LFG – the joys of being dps. NOT!

had a horrendous time on my L73 going on L74 hunter, Muzzleshot, with LFG yesterday. took me approx 2 hrs waiting and failing to finally earn my EoTs.

DPS REALLY HAVE TO EARN THEIR BADGES!

because the LFG queue is usually 30 min, i set off to do my quests, but ever ready to pop into an instance.

so after the customary wait, i got into a AN run. looked at the party. hmmm, L76 healer, nice. L72 tank, not so nice. the dps is between 71 and 73 so they are ok.

we clear the mobs to the 1st boss. tank dies. gets rezzed. already a bad sign. but while heals is trying to get mana back after rezzing, he starts boss fight sequence. of course, its a wipe. and the healer left after that. then the rest disappear too. LFG went up in smoke.

next time i get into an instance, its nexus. i thought. should be a piece of cake. after all, im L73. the rest are around L71. the expected level for this instance. trash mobs to first boss were nicely cleared. then we wiped at the 1st boss. the priest didnt use PoM (prayer of mending) at all. half the time she was ‘stunned’. i was the first to die. i was the lowest on the being healed meters. and i was the highest dps in the group. so of course we wipe once im dead. 2nd highest dps was a mage, and he got no heals either. so 2nd time round, i told the shammy to offheal. and for priest to use PoM. we cleared the boss but i still died. again, no heals. i think i pissed off the priest for giving her advice. probably a him, but im just identifying by character gender type. right after the boss fight, the tank decided to pull the next mob, even though i told him to wait for the pat mob first (hunter can track mobs). tried to get the 1st mob down quick. but not quick enough, the pats joined up. i died again. then healer left group, followed by tank. so LFG fail again.

finally, got a nexus group that worked. from start to finish, pretty much smoothly going. total time waiting and doing failed runs to finally completing one, 2 hrs.

on the other hand, pyroblast had a much easier nexus run. a quiet industrious group, cleared everything easy. even though a dps dropped out early, the replacement dps DK was ok, if a bit mouthy about his dps. but haha, he was L73 and his dps was below pyro’s L71 dps and total output. and i wasnt even working hard at dpsing, just going along nicely.

LFG’s best friend: /ignore

there is only so much you can do in a LFG. there will always be some really nasty players that you will never ever want to see again.

it can be the tank that decides to skip town in the middle of the VH mob waves. or some foul-mouthed brat.

/ignore <name>-<realm> takes care of that. you will never have to group up with them again cos LFG uses your /ignore list to filter out undesirables.

now, /ignore isn’t going to prevent the mentally retarded from logging in with another toon to whisper you the top 10 vulgarities on his list. it’s just so you dont need to run with them in a LFG ever again.

incidently, 2 interesting LFG runs i had lately.

1st: AN. shortnacity (frost, tank specced, def geared, frost presence) was L72 going on 73, and went into the instance, thinking this would be a piece of cake. cos everyone was higher level. unfortunately, the dps were noobs, the healer was noob. so we wiped several times at the mob waves b4 the 1st boss. after a few more wipes, we called it. dps never break webbed tgts (esp heals), aggro skirmishers who then proceeded to flatten them. healer not effective, even though L74. in another AN run later that day, i was on Cavelion (L74 disc priest) and i healed the whole group i was with perfectly.

2nd: Nexus. shortnacity again, since i didnt complete the LFG instance for the EoTs. cleared fast and ok. then at the frozen zone, things start to break down. dps dont know when to aoe (when i have DnD, then aoe! duh…) so they draw aggro from pests. came to the point where we died at the 3rd boss. the mage and other dps killed themselves during the spell reflect periods. and the healer who should be healing me i think went and healed them too much so i died when he ran out of mana. awesome boss fight fail followed by even more awesome wipe run fail. when running back to the 3rd boss thru the frozen zone, the shammy healer decided that he can run, aggro pests (no more mobs, we cleared them already) then aoe them to death. lol. more like he get attacked by them to death. fortunately i was running with him and grab aggro with DnD.  then the last pax on our party decided to release and run. after we already cleared towards his corpse. so we have to run back to escort him. but at that point, the healer ran way in front, aggroed pests, and died. so we had to teleport out and in and everyone start at the start again. and if that wasnt enough, for the 4th boss, wiped at first try. how? i have no idea. cos the 2nd time we downed the boss with everyone alive and well.
