dual boxing continued

in the past, i have dual boxed occasionally, since i have 2 accounts.

however, faced with the prospect of a ton of alts now at L84 (after that rush for brewfest trinkets) and all having to take a trip to Twilight Highlands (TH), it makes sense to dual box to reduce the boredom of doing the same set of quests over and over again.

so i have gone over the list of 84s on firetree (6, so 3 pairs) and jubei’thos (4, so 2 pairs) and matched them up, usually a dps (warriors, rogues, dks) with a healing class (priests, pallys)

that way, the dps can basically kill non stop. and kill very fast too, since they dont need to stop to bandage/eat.

the next is to ensure that both toons are on the same set of TH quests. while most have just hit L84 and hence are at the Hero’s Call starting quest for TH, those that arent will need to match up with their paired alt.

fortunately, i have not got to the stage where they are already questing in TH. so that makes it easier. the last time i did dual box questing for TH, it was with Rhoanin and Persi, and that was messy cos Persi hit 84 earlier than Rhoanin, and was already in TH for farming ores. so i had to stop working on Persi’s quests and get Rhoanin up to speed.

i’m gonna document how to dual box the TH quests (at least until the SW portal in TH opens) in a following post, since i have to follow the same procedure 5 times! this means knowing which quests are kill and which quests are loot as well as the optimal sequence of doing quests.

one disadvantage of dual boxing is that i usually cant queue for LFG, which i like to do so as a distraction from the boredom of questing/farming non st0p, cos it wont be fair to the rest of the dungeon group when the 2 toons are not performing at the same rate.

Everstone dinged!

actually, everstone had been L84 for the longest time. but i didnt take him into any dungeons or questing (stopped after getting the SW portal opened in Twilight Highlands).

instead, i levelled him via mining! ROFL! i did a screencap of it.

gear-wise, he already has a full set of blue L85 bloodthirsty resilience gear, an epic tanking trinket from JPs saved up from former dungeon runs,  plus some other stuff xense and other firetree toons picked up/crafted for him

so he was ready for H dungeons right from hitting the level cap, but first, i had to train and spec him up, then gem and enchant.

then i took him to queue for H.

unfortunately, his first run was H Stonecore, and i failed at the Orzuk boss fight. i just cant get the tanking mechanics right. i felt really bad about it. cos the rest of the party were ok. i can tank for normal, but H is just too complicated. even after i get the sequencing right, i get the timing wrong. i probably need to practice more. so good luck to those who are stuck in my party!

next run was H Tides. that one i am confident about. so we cleared thru, ok, with a couple of deaths along the way. for example, on the 1st fight, i think healer ran out of mana, and so i died.  i think the party was a bit low on gear, cos all the boss drops were needed. so Everstone picked up his first VPs!

a H LFG run that failed for Spiritcat

this one is an awesome epic fail. we didnt even make it to downing the 1st boss. everyone just left in the middle of the fight, when people started dying.

actually, i already suspected it wont be a good run. whenever there are 2 healers in a mob, the tank would ask the druid to root one. which totally is useless, so i ended up using MC on the rooted healer. then they went off and broke the hex on the other healer…. sigh.

at least, there was a best excuse to use root on a castor: that way i know where they are (Griffin-Stonemaul) – i even have a screencap of the convo.

guild achievement – H dungeon run

Guild achievement – H run

last night, ran a super long H GB (Grim Batol) cos we didnt follow strat. ok, we forgot the strat. Due to the current blizzard development on trial, which allows you to invite cross realm friends to party up, we got a 4-man group (Samin, Vertu, Magel, Musterbaitor/Jubei’thos) and LFG 1 more dps.

We got GB run, and thought it would be a piece of cake. wrong. 1st boss we wiped 3 times before we called it quits and skipped it. turns out, we didnt do it right and as a result, got smashed.

Strat requires cc of the malignant trogg. Killing this trogg near the boss, he will gain a 100% damage bonus (according to wowhead.)Holding the malignant trogg instead of killing it prevents more adds from spawning.

2nd boss fight wasnt easy either. the boss went from 60 deg cone of fire to 360 deg and everyone took too much dmg and wiped. we managed to get the boss down only after vertu was left with the boss at like 1%. it didnt help that the top dps was also the guy who died the first – cat druid.

and just when you thought things will be easier with 3rd boss, no. we wiped. cos i think people got burned by the adds. 2nd time round, we did it ok. this run was like a revision exercise for all. lol.

magel hadnt done GB in a while, since she was queueing mostly ZAZG now, so i had forgotten some of the strat. i only recently restarted H runs with Pickwick, since i was using him to farm mats for Magel’s engineering.

before last boss, druid had to leave and we got a DK. DK stayed alive and we completed the instance without any more wipes. repair cost for magel? 90 Gold.

We did it more for the guild achievement than anything else. the loot was all DE.

Xense changed profs

Yup. Formerly, Xense was mining and herbing, useless for a main. so i told my pal who plays Xense exclusively now, to consider reprofing. As what i did for Zappel when i moved Noice over to Jubei’thos.

so over the weekend, i also changed Werewolfe skinning to mining, and he mined from scratch to now being able to mine in Northrend (cobalt). i also used Pickwick, Everstone, Moodykat and Wormage to help mine the mats needed for Xense’s new profs – Engineering and Blacksmithing.

As of Sunday night, Xense is already using cobalt for levelling profs, with saronite next to come. and before you know it, it will be cata mats. I have parked Everstone in SB for the mining.

Firetree lowbies are now in Northrend

As a result of the last few activities i have been working on the 2 lowbies, both Wormage and Werewolfe are now in HF and have cold weather flying (SW to BT to get trained, then fly across Northrend to start quests in HF together). Wormage is 69 while Werewolfe is 68. Gonna rest them this week else they will be running on empty.

northrend again

finally got an alt high enuf to revisit northrend, i first landed incorrigible, my L68 prot pally in BT (Borean Tundra). well, i did that cos he was based in Stormwind (SW) and they have a boat to BT.

big mistake. that was never my fave starter zone for levelling in northrend. just couldnt get the enthusiasm up. after paying for northrend cold weather flying and then checking out a few FPs and doing some starter quests in the vicinity of the alliance base, i flew east to valgarde in HF (Howling Fjord).

some funny happened along the way. i flew across northrend, then down to HF. as i was approaching HF, i got distracted and then left him to continue to fly off the radar. by the time i got back, he was in serious difficulties and couldnt fly back to safety. died from flying fatigue! ROFL! he rezzed somewhere in Westfall! dunno if that is a bug or what! anyway, i hearthed him back to SW and then flew him to Ironforge (IF) and set his base there. then i flew him over to Menethil Harbor and took the other boat to northrend, the one that stops at Valgarde, HF.

HF is where it’s at, boys! did the starter quests, then flew over to the HF Utgarde Keep (UK) instance, and picked up the 2 quests from the NPC outside it.  i had hit L69 shortly before, so i queued for LFG and see what i would get. yup, almost immediately, i got a LFG for tanking UK!

i was kinda distracted, and so was the healer, but we made it to the first boss and actually didnt wipe a few times along the way. even though we didnt follow strat on the first boss (stack so that consec etc will break ice tomb and oso keep the adds away from the healer)

however, the first mob up the stairs wiped us. how? i have no idea, but wipe we did. after that, a dps left and a rogue popped in. good thing, cos he helped sap for the next 4-man mob on the stairs. i probably didnt have enough gear for northrend dungeon cos i had just popped into the first dungeon without northrend gear although i had quite a bit of BoA stuff. we didnt wipe after that, and went on to clear the end boss with EASE (although i think 1 guy died. how? i have no idea, since i was doing the correct tanking style for the end boss – dont move, take the dmg from the phase 1 smash and the harder phase 2 dark smash) when tank dont move, melee dps wont run the risk of getting hit by the boss, but i think the flying axe done him in. i had to move when the flying axe got too close. twice.

and after turning the quests for the run as well as some additional utgarde catacombs, incorrigible dinged L70! and now has some northrend gear too. so next time can try the other instance in BT – Nexus.

now to rest him for a bit while i get the others to play catch up.

important update 8th april 2011:

ok. i found out the hard way. took Persi (L68 lock) to HF first, only to find out, there is NO FLYING TRAINER IN VALGARDE (HF)

so you should still go to BT first, and get the cold weather flying training, then fly over to HF, or stick with BT to level up. i just prefer HF for now. maybe after 2 toons, i might just do BT cos of the boredom of repetition.

levelling in outlands (HellFire Peninsula)

my typical strat for outlands is: get there around L59. cos if you go there too early (ie L58), it’s a pain to travel without a plane (i mean, flying, which you can only get at L60. thereafter you can even fly, back in azeroth, if you paid for the appropriate flying training).  you dont want to get there after 60, cos you miss out on gear from some starter quests in the hellfire zone.

just before you step into outlands, set your home/hearth in IF or SW (now that there are no more portals in dalaran or shattrah city). then take the portal to the blasted lands. mount up and run up to the npc just before the dark portal to pick up the 1st of a chain quest:  Through the Dark Portal

enter the dark portal, then just follow the quests to Honor Hold, right up to the fortress. which then splits into 2 quest chains. both are worth doing, but one is key to getting a quest for the 1st instance called Hellfire Ramparts (2nd instance is Blood Furnace)

Do the Know Your Enemy quest, which leads to the Fel Orc Scavengers quest, which leads to Ill Omens, which then opens up Weaken the Ramparts instance quest.

if you need to cook, pick up the ravager egg quest from a npc at the zeppelin crash site. cos then when you kill the ravagers, the meat will drop and you can cook it. the recipe is from the cook in the HH inn.

remember to get the Temple of Telhamat FP.

after a few quests and LFG instance queues to the 2 instances, you would be L61/62 and ready for Zangarmarsh.
